Description:
Large, fairly robust lark with deep-based heavy bill, rather long wings, short tail. Long, broad-based wings and comparatively short tail. Has prominent white supercilium and eye-ring, black patch on side of breast, dark grey underwing lacking white trailing edge, and whitish tip to tail.
Distribution:
Uncommon passage migrant and winter visitor to western areas of Ghizer, Gilgit and Diamer districts. Prefers open habitats; generally stonier and less grassy terrain and, when breeding, in more mountainous or hilly country, up to 2700m.
Behavior:
Forages on ground, actively searching for the food. Usually singly or in flocks. Diet consists of invertebrates and seeds. Invertebrates include adults and non-adults of orthopterans, termites, bugs, lepidopterans, flies, hymenopterans, beetles and arachnids. Seeds mostly in late summer and winter.
